WeTransfer’s free plan stops at 3 GB every 30 days. DIGO Express, SwissTransfer and Smash compared: limits, link duration, branding and prices.

updated on October 28, 2026

When a file is too big for email, the first name that comes to mind is WeTransfer. Its free plan has tight limits, though, and for work you need a paid plan. Here you’ll find WeTransfer side by side with three alternatives, DIGO Express, SwissTransfer and Smash, with figures taken from each service’s official pages: data checked in October 2026. DIGO Express is our own service, which is why you’ll also find the cases where another one is the better fit.

Why people look for a WeTransfer alternative

  • The free plan is tight. Up to 3 GB per transfer and no more than 10 transfers, or 3 GB in total, every 30 days.
  • Links don’t last long. On the free plan and on Starter, transfers expire after 3 days at most.
  • You need an account to send. Even on the free plan, you have to sign up.
  • The free plan is for personal use. WeTransfer lists it as individual, non-commercial use only: for work you need a paid plan.
  • Branding costs more. The custom page is included from Ultimate, at €23 a month (€19 billed annually).

When DIGO Express is the better choice

  • You want to send without an account. Up to 5 GB per transfer and 10 transfers a day: you confirm your email with a code and that’s it.
  • You work with your own brand. With Pro the download page shows your logo, colors and background, for €6.90 a month. With Enterprise you can use a different brand for each transfer.
  • You need to receive files from clients. With Request files you send a link and the files land in your account, with an email for each upload.
  • You need large transfers at a clear price. Pro goes up to 2 TB per transfer for €6.90 a month or €66 a year, VAT included. Enterprise has no size limit.
  • You prefer a European provider. DIGO Express is run by Studio 09 S.r.l. in Pistoia, Italy: files stay in Europe, on servers in Italy, and are deleted on their own when they expire.

How to switch from WeTransfer to DIGO Express

There’s nothing to migrate: open the site and send. Here are the steps:

  1. Open digo.expressDrag files or entire folders into the box, or pick them from your computer. On the free plan you can send up to 5 GB, with no account.
  2. Choose how to send themBy email, to up to 3 recipients, or as a link only, to paste wherever you like: a chat, your business software, a message.
  3. Confirm your emailThe first time, you get a 6-digit code: it prevents abuse, with no account needed.
  4. Upgrade to Pro when you need itWith Pro you get up to 2 TB per transfer and links for up to 90 days, with a password, your own brand and Request files.

When another service is a better fit

  • You need more free GB. SwissTransfer goes up to 50 GB per transfer without an account, with links for up to 30 days.
  • You want a password without paying. WeTransfer, SwissTransfer and Smash include it on their free plans; on DIGO Express it’s part of Pro.
  • You need links that never expire. WeTransfer’s Ultimate plan offers them; with DIGO Express the maximum is 90 days.
  • You send a very large file now and then and can wait. Smash’s free plan has no size limit: above 2 GB, the transfer joins a queue behind those of paying subscribers.
